Veliko Tarnovo & Arbanassi Private Tour | Medieval Bulgaria Experience
This private two-day tour takes you to the very heart of medieval Bulgaria — Veliko Tarnovo, the former capital of the Bulgarian Kingdom, and the nearby architectural reserve of Arbanassi.
I introduce you to powerful fortresses, cobbled streets, richly decorated churches, and some of the finest examples of Bulgarian Revival-era art and architecture. The experience is crowned by the famous “Sound and Light” show, an emotional audio-visual spectacle set against the walls of Tsarevets Hill.
Day 1 - Departure to Veliko Tarnovo. Upon arrival, I take you on a city tour of the medieval capital, including a walk through Tsarevets Hill — the stronghold of the Bulgarian kings — with its palace ruins, defensive walls, and Patriarchal Church. We continue along Samovodska Charshiya, the old crafts street, where traditional workshops and small artisan shops keep old skills alive.
In the evening, optional attendance of the famous “Sound and Light” show — a unique combination of music, lights, and narration that brings Bulgarian history to life.
Day 2 - Short drive to Arbanassi, one of Bulgaria’s most important architectural reserves. Here I show you some of the country’s most exquisite monuments of Bulgarian art, including the Nativity of Christ Church, the Church of Sts. Archangels Michael and Gabriel, and the fortified Konstantsalieva House, offering insight into the life and wealth of Bulgarian merchants during the Ottoman period.
